The 56-year-old joined Trabzonspor last year, but passed away on March 10 after suffering a heart attack and could not be saved despite interventions.

Onuachu scored the only goal of that clash and celebrated by raising a Trabzonspor number 11 jersey that had the name of the coach on it.

The Nigerian forward scored for the eighth consecutive league game, a new club-record, as they moved level on points with second-placed Fenerbahce.

Meanwhile, Onuachu moved up to 21 league goals for the season and is currently five above Eldor Shomurodov in second place.

What Onuachu said after Trabzonspor win

Onuachu, who scored for the 10th consecutive game across all competitions, dedicated his goal to the club’s late coach, following his passing earlier in the week.

“I want to start by offering my condolences to the family of our coach, whom we lost,” Onuachu said after the match.

“We dedicate this victory to him and his family. It wasn’t easy to play this match. We are going through a difficult period for our city and our club. We are happy that we won this match for him.”

The Nigerian striker also hailed his side’s performance in the clash as they overcame a tough test to claim maximum points.

“There are no easy matches in this league. We need to highlight the quality of our opponent. Rizespor put up a good fight defensively. We will continue to fight”, Onuachu added.

“We have to give credit to our coach and technical staff, wth their help, we continue to win. What we need to do is always continue to improve as a team.”

Trabzonspor will be back in action on Wednesday when they face Eyupspor, hoping to continue their winning momentum.
