The African giants recorded an impressive 2-1 win over Iran in their opening encounter last Friday, with Moses Simon and Akor Adams getting the goals.

Another win in Tuesday’s encounter will lift them to glory and earn a second title in under a year, after their triumph at the 2025 Unity Cup, where they defeated Ghana and Jamaica in May 2025.

While the likes of Victor Osimhen and Stanley Nwabali were left out of the squad, Calvin Bassey pulled out due to injury and was replaced by Trabzonspor defender Chibuike Nwaiwu.

Meanwhile, Semi Ajayi and Bruno Onyemaechi have both left camp due to personal reasons, while Maduka Okoye have become the latest to pull out of the Jordan game with a thigh injury.

Ahead of Tuesday’s clash, SportPremi highlights four Nigerian players who could play a key role in the encounter;

1. Emmanuel Fernandez (Defender)

Rangers defender Emmanuel Fernandez made his debut against Iran, coming on as a second half substitute for Semi Ajayi and will now be eyeing a starring role in the clash against Jordan.

The 24-year-old enjoyed a solid debut performance and helped marshal the defence against the threat posed by the Iranians in the clash.

With Bassey and Ajayi out injured, Fernandez could earn his maiden start in the green and white colours of the Super Eagles and his battle with the Jordanian attackers will be one to keep an eye on.

2. Zaidu Sanusi (Left-back)

Heading into the 2025 African Cup of Nations tournament in Morocco, Zaidu Sanusi was Nigeria’s first-choice left-back.

However, an uninspiring display in the opening clash against Tanzania saw him lose his place to Bruno Onyemaechi, who was very superb in the position.

Zaidu Sanusi has another opportunity to impress this time around, with Onyemaechi due to the birth of his child.

Perhaps a strong performance from the Porto defender could earn him a place back in the lineup under Eric Chelle.

3. Paul Onuachu (Centre-forward)

Trabzonspor striker Paul Onuachu will have another opportunity to impress for Nigeria against Jordan, after his short cameo against Iran the last time out.

The 31-year-old has been in excellent form for the Turkish club since returning from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, where he scored once. If he gets the nod to start, he will be eager to carry that club form onto the international stage, especially with Osimhen absent.

4. Chibuike Nwaiwu (Centre-back)

Chibuike Nwaiwu earned a late call-up to the national team following Bassey’s withdrawal with injury and made his debut in the win over Iran, coming on to replace Igoh Ogbu in the second half.

The 22-year-old will be eager to impress Chelle and stake a claim for a more regular role in the team ahead of the qualifiers for the 2027 African Cup of Nations.
