Paul Onuachu has applauded the support of the fans after Trabzonspor sealed a hard-fought 2-1 win over Galatasaray in Saturday’s Turkish Super League encounter.
The Claret-Blues recorded their sixth successive league win to move up to second on the standings, three points above Fenerbahce and one point behind Galatasaray, although both of their rivals have a game in hand.
The game was played at the Papara Park on Saturday evening and saw Trabzonspor secure their 19th win of the season and put themselves back in contention to win a first Turkish League title since the 2021-22 season.
The hosts took an early lead as Onuachu headed home after good work from Wagner Pina on the byline, marking his 22nd league goal of the campaign.

Galatasaray equalized after the break through Wilfried Singo, who arrived at the back post to slot home past Andre Onana.
Two Nigerians then combined for the winner as Anthony Nwakaema’s delivery from a freekick was headed home by Chibuike Nwaiwu, as Trabzonspor sealed a 2-1 win.

Speaking after the match, goalscorer Onuachu praised the club’s fans for their support which was a massive influence in their performance in the important win.
“Yeah I mean of course this is why we play the game, for the fans. It’s a great victory, the team fought hard and at the end of the day, we came out with three points. I mean thanks to the fans for coming out to support us”, Onuachu said.
The Super Eagles forward also backed Trabzonspor’s title challenge and is confident the team that take the title race down to the wire.
“This is why this is the Super League, for us to try to compete. All respect to Galatasaray good players good technical staff but you can see when you play together as a team, you work hard and you always get the result. I’m really grateful for the three points and for the fans”, he continued.
“I mean I think we just have to keep going. All respect to Galatasaray, we just have to keep winning our games and at the end of the day we see where we end. There’s Fener, there’s Galatasaray, so we just have to keep winning all of our games and at the end of the day, we’ll see where we end”, Onuachu concluded.
Trabzonspor will return to action next weekend against Alanyaspor, hoping to continue their impressive winning streak and keep the title race wide open.
