The Nigerian striker has been a pivotal figure for the Claret-Blues this season and will be a huge miss as they continue their title challenge.

Onuachu has scored 24 times across all competitions this season, including 22 in the league and is on course to win the Turkish golden boot award with just a few matches left this season.

The 31-year-old has also scored in nine of his last 10 league matches and recently broke the record for the most consecutive goalscoring games across all competitions for Trabzonspor with 10.

He also scored in their 2-1 win over Galatasaray last weekend, which pulled them closer to the title race and moved them just four points behind the champions, with just six matches left to play this season.

The former Genk forward joined the club permanently from Southampton last summer and has been linked with an exit from the club after his impressive performances, although their fairytale is expected to continue beyond this campaign.

A win against Alanyaspor on Saturday would reduce the gap to the top of the standings to just a single point and also into second place, with both of their rivals set to play over the weekend.

Trabzonspor confirm Onuachu’s injury

Ahead of their clash against Alanyaspor on Saturday, Trabzonspor confirmed that their star forward will sit out the clash with a minor injury.

“Following an initial assessment of our player Paul Onuachu, who experienced pain and stiffness in the upper anterior thigh muscle group during today’s training session, a muscle injury is suspected, and he has been removed from the Corendon Alanyaspor match squad. Treatment for our player has been started by our medical team”, Trabzonspor statement revealed.

Onuachu would be expected back in action ahead of their next clash against Istanbul Basaksehir in the next match-day, as they look to continue their title challenge this season.
