The Reds head into the international break with an unbeaten run in the English Premier League thanks to a comfortable 3-0 victory over Unai Emery’s Aston Villa on Sunday.
In a dominant display at Anfield, Liverpool secured a convincing 3-0 victory over Aston Villa. Goals from Dominik Szoboszlai and Mohamed Salah and an unfortunate own goal by Matty Cash sealed a comfortable win for the Reds.
What happened in the game?
Three minutes into the game, Liverpool’s new signing, Dominik Szoboszlai, scored the opening goal at Anfield.
The new signing latched upon a well-placed headed clearance from a corner kick and expertly driving the ball into the bottom right-hand corner of the net.
Liverpool asserted their dominance in terms of possession, swiftly doubling their lead in the 22nd minute. Following a brilliant first-time cross by Salah using the outside of his boot, the Uruguayan forward, Darwin Nunez, struck the ball against the post before it ricocheted off Aston Villa goalkeeper and nestled into the back of the net.
The opportunity for Reds to extend their lead almost presented itself just moments later when Joel Matip found himself completely unmarked just eight yards from the goal, courtesy of a precise Trent Alexander-Arnold set piece. However, the defender’s header went wide of the post, letting Villa off the danger.
Nunez came close to adding another goal late in the second half, as he delicately lifted the ball, but it rattled against the crossbar after a pinpoint pass from Mohammed Salah on the right side of the box.
The away side showed signs of life at the beginning of the second half, with Matty Cash forcing a smart save from Alisson after connecting with a whipped cross delivered by Lucas Digne.
Liverpool quickly countered to create a promising opportunity of their own. Unfortunately, Nunez, despite an exquisite outside-of-the-boot pass from the Egyptian King, shockingly sent the ball wide of an open net from just six yards out. It was a disappointing miss.
Salah, however, quickly made amends for Nunez’s miss, capitalizing on a Nunez flick-on from a corner kick to calmly slot home Liverpool’s third goal right in front of the away fans.
The Egyptian forward continued to wreak havoc on the right flank after his goal, testing Emi Martinez with an audacious volleyed effort, which required the Villa goalkeeper to make a sharp save.
