Super Eagles legend John Mikel Obi has advised his former club Chelsea to keep Nicolas Jackson this summer.

This summer, Chelsea have been very busy in the transfer market. They have brought in many young attackers, including Estêvão Willian, Liam Delap, Jamie Gittens, and Joao Pedro.

The signing of two strikers has put Jackson’s place at Chelsea hanging in the balance. He did not even make the matchday squad in the Blues’ first two games of the season.

Due to his situation, Jackson has been linked to many English Premier League clubs. Newcastle United has even been touted as a potential destination, but nothing concrete has happened yet.

Amid all the speculations surrounding the Senegalese striker, former Chelsea midfielder Mikel, has urged to club to keep Jackson.

Mikel is one of the former Villarreal man’s biggest critics, but he believes Jackson offers something different from what Pedro and Delap offer.

“I’m hearing that Nicolas Jackson wants to leave. I hope he stays, because I still think he has a massive part to play this season,” Mikel said on the Obi One Podcast.

“Going forward in this football club, I’ve said it, he’s a fantastic player, the quality that he brings to the club, I think we need that. I’ll be very happy if he stays.”

Why Nicolas Jackson Must Leave Chelsea

Nicolas Jackson’s current predicament at Chelsea has come at a bad time. With the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations scheduled for December this year, he has to play regular football to make Senegal’s squad. If he doesn’t, it will be highly unlikely for him to make the team.

Asides from Newcastle United, Jackson has also been linked to Bayern Munich, Aston Villa, and Tottenham.

The transfer window is only open for just over a week, so he has to get a transfer as soon as possible.
