The Red Devils endured their worst campaign in 51 years, since the 1974 season when they suffered relegation into the lower division.

They ended the season with 40 points and in 15th-place, their lowest-ever point tally and league finish in that period.

Despite their run to the Europa League final last season, before losing 1-0 in the final to Tottenham Hotspur, they are yet to win consecutive league games since the Portuguese took charge almost a year ago.

It’s more shocking that they have not won consecutive league games since May 2024, while the 2-1 win over Chelsea last weekend was the first time they had won back-to-back home matches under Amorim.

However, their season has been very inconsistent with a couple of uninspiring displays from the team.

They suffered a shock second round exit to League Two outfit Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup, raising doubts about Amorim’s ability to lead the club.

Manchester United face Brentford on Saturday, hoping to win to overcome the disappointments of last season.

Amorim eyes consecutive wins

Speaking ahead of the weekend’s clash with Brentford, Ruben Amorim expressed optimism about his side’s chances.

“I think if we start winning it is not [a question of] 10 wins in a row. I am talking about the second one, then the third one. The feeling will change and again that is something about the environment that we are living for a while”, Amorim revealed.

“The important thing is to do the maximum and to face that game like we faced Liverpool last year because we were struggling, or the way we started the season against Arsenal.

“We were really excited to start the season. We should have that feeling all the time.

“I think if we as a team, if we don’t understand the momentum now, we have a big problem”, he continued.

“We need to understand the momentum of the club and the opportunity that we have to win the next game. So it’s on us and the responsibility is on us.”
