The in-form striker was on the scoresheet once again as his side came from a goal down to record a commanding 3-1 win over their opponents in the Turkish Super League on Saturday.

His brace moved him up to 11 league goals for the season and back to the top of the goalscoring charts ahead of Istanbul Basaksehir’s Eldor Shomurodov.

The win also moves Trabzonspor level on points with second-placed Fenerbahce and one behind champions Galatasaray, as both top two teams clash later on Monday.

Onuachu scores twice in Trabzonspor win

Konyaspor started the game well and were denied twice in quick succession by Trabzonspor goalkeeper Andre Onana.

However, they took the lead in fortuitous circumstance as Okay Yokuslu turned a cross into his own net in the 17th minute.

The hosts grew into the game and were awarded a penalty after a foul by Konyaspor goalkeeper, which Paul Onuachu confidently dispatched to level the scoreline.

The Nigerian doubled his tally five minutes after the break with a neat finish into the bottom corner for his 11th league goal of the season.

Ernest Muci added a third six minutes later with a stunning free kick that went past the Konyaspor goalkeeper.

The game ended 3-1 in favor of the home side, who recorded a ninth win of the campaign from their opening 14 games.

Onuachu desires team glory over individual achievements

Despite scoring twice in the encounter and leading the race for the Turkish golden boot award, Nigerian international Paul Onuachu reveals that the team’s success remains his major priority.

“It feels good (to score 11 goals). But the most important thing is to win”, Onuachu expressed.

“We started the match a little slowly. We woke up after conceding the goal. The team showed a good fight today. After conceding the goal, we put our own game on display”, the Super Eagles forward said after the win.

“This team has shown that it can achieve great things. I am very happy for the team. We are a family team.

“When my friends I play with score a goal, I am as happy as if it was my own. The whole team is doing a good job. We are a family team.”

Trabzonspor will return to action on Wednesday, when they play host to Van in the Turkish Cup fourth round.
