Why we built SPV
SPV gives every player a transparent, data-driven figure that reflects what they consistently produce on the pitch, updated as new performances arrive. It was built with African football in mind, too: competitions such as AFCON and the CAF Champions League, and domestic leagues across the continent, are often thinly covered elsewhere. SPV gives every player a genuine, explained figure whatever league they play in.
The performance dimensions
SPV blends several dimensions rather than relying on any single statistic, each weighted by position:
Recent form
Output across a player's most recent matches.
Season performance
Consistency and output across the current campaign.
Competition performance
How a player performs relative to the level they play at.
Career performance
Longevity and quality over the career so far.
Age profile
Where a player sits on a typical performance curve.
Career trajectory
Whether recent output is rising, stable or declining.
Competition & league strength
A player's league sets the overall scale their value can reach: the same performance is worth more in a stronger environment. Continental and international competitions (UEFA and CAF Champions League, AFCON, the World Cup) are factored in alongside domestic form, and recent performances count for more than older ones.
International performance and availability
National-team performances are part of the picture, and are especially valuable for players in lower-ceiling leagues, where a strong tournament shows a level beyond the domestic game. Minutes played are taken into account too, so a value reflects sustained, proven performance rather than a small or favourable run of games.
What SPV does not measure
SPV ignores marketability, sponsorship and off-pitch profile. It is a measure of football performance.

Is SPV a market value or transfer fee?▾
No. SPV is a performance value. It estimates how a player is performing on the pitch, not what a club would pay. Transfer fees also depend on contracts, release clauses and club finances, which are outside the model.
Why can SPV differ from other valuations?▾
Different models use different methodologies. SPV prioritises measurable football performance and does not factor in marketability, sponsorship or off-pitch profile.
Does SPV account for defenders and goalkeepers?▾
Yes. Every player is judged on the responsibilities that fit their position, such as defending, duels and interceptions for defenders, or match ratings for keepers, not attacking output alone.
Can a player in a smaller league have a high SPV?▾
A player's league sets the scale their value can reach, but exceptional performances are recognised within that scale, and a strong showing for the national team can reflect quality beyond the domestic league.
How often is SPV updated?▾
It is recalculated as new match data arrives, so it reflects current form rather than a fixed snapshot.
