Chelsea hoping to sign Victor Osimhen despite Liverpool agreement

Chelsea reportedly aims to secure Victor Osimhen, despite recent rumours of Liverpool securing an agreement to sign the Napoli forward.

The summer transfer window saw intense speculation regarding Nigeria’s Osimhen’s potential departure from Napoli. However, the Italian club, holding him under contract until 2025, set a substantial price tag of around £150 million.

Recent tensions between Osimhen and Napoli escalated when the club shared a rather unusual TikTok video, seemingly mocking the talented forward through their official account.

According to a report by TeamTalk, Chelsea’s transfer committee is relentless in their quest for a new striker next season. The timing of this move, whether in January or the summer transfer window, remains uncertain.

Furthermore, the report highlights that while the signing of the Nigerian international is not guaranteed, The Blues has maintained a close watch on his progress and continues to track his performance.

Napoli clinched the Serie A title in the previous season, with Osimhen standing out as the star player. He netted an impressive 26 goals and contributed five assists in 32 league appearances. In addition, he scored five goals in six Champions League matches.

Chelsea’s financial prowess under Todd Boehly’s ownership presents a formidable challenge to Liverpool, who was previously rumoured to have secured a deal for Osimhen in the upcoming year.

It’s worth noting that Liverpool rejected a £150 million bid from Al-Ittihad for Mohamed Salah last summer. However, there are indications that the Saudi Pro League club is gearing up for another attempt to sign the Egyptian in 2024.

Concerns are also mounting that Liverpool may be compelled to accept such an offer, especially given that Salah will be entering the final year of his current contract at Anfield by that time.
