Lookman joined Los Rojiblancos earlier this year and has enjoyed a bright start to life at the club, scoring seven goals and providing four assists across all competitions this season.

The 28-year-old scored the decisive goal that sent Atletico Madrid to the semifinals of the UEFA Champions League for the first time in nine years and also scored in their Copa del Rey final defeat to Real Sociedad last weekend, although he was withdrawn due to a injury issue.

Lookman could even take on a more central role at the club next season, with Frenchman Antoine Griezmann set to move to the Major League Soccer at the end of the season to join Orlando City, while Argentine forward Julian Alvarez has been subject of transfer speculation and could leave the club also.

Amoo backs Lookman for big role at Atletico Madrid

Fatai Amoo, who previously coached the Nigerian U-20 side, was full of admiration for Ademola Lookman after his early impact at Atletico Madrid.

The Super Eagles forward has turned up in big matches and Amoo believes he would be much better next season.

“There is no doubt that Lookman has been exceptional at Atletico Madrid since joining the club. His contributions in terms of goals have been exceptional as well”, Amoo revealed.

“He has added more value to the team, and his impact has been top-notch. I see a big future for Lookman at Atletico Madrid, considering that he has barely spent four months with the squad.

“I expect him to play a big part with the team next season,” the former Shooting Stars coach added.

Lookman’s focus at the moment is recovering in time to be fit for Atletico Madrid’s UEFA Champions League semifinal first leg meeting with Arsenal next week, after he recently suffered an injury that caused his withdrawal from the Copa del Rey final last weekend.
